Toggle Clasp by Diana Frey
When I began planning what I would make with her lovely beads, I decided to focus in on the purples of the amethyst. I was looking for a combination of rustic with Diana's sophisticated ornateness. To achieve that effect I used patinaed copper wire which looks almost black and wire wrapped my handmade ceramic beads in various shades of green and Diana's lovely faceted amethyst and antique brass beads.
For the transition between the wire wrapped beads and Diana's gorgeous focal, I used a piece of copper tube that I altered and a piece of antique iron that I purchased last Fall at a Flea Market in nearby Canada.
I used wire, double balled end extra long head pins that I made and some Wooly Wire to attach the bars to the wire wrapping and the pendant. I made a bail for the pendant out of a double extra extra long ball end 16 gauge head pin--a technique I learned from Deryn Mentock's Alchemy of Objects class.
And then to tie all the parts together visually I added a spiral green round bead I made from porcelain to the fabulously delicate dangles on Diana's pendant.

Since Diana was SO generous in supplying me with ample Bead Soup, I decided to make another piece with some of the gold, bronze and purple pearl beads and the handmade silver chain she gave me. This piece is done in a free form peyote stitch style.
I love how those clear crystal beads refracted the light into blue and pink !! Now I hope that you will visit Diana and see what she made HERE.. Below is a picture of the beads I sent to her.
