This is week 4 in Sally Russick's 52 weeks of Focusing on Life
Our prompt this week was to make art.
I consider my bead and jewelry making my art. This week I fired my stoneware ceramic beads in some new colors . I was a bit disappointed at first as my kiln did not fire right, perhaps due to the extra draw on the electric grid due to our very cold weather.
After some minor remediation, I have grown to like them very much and have plans to use them in a free form peyote necklace. I was so happy to discover that my copper clay pieces go beautifully with them and that these seed beads will be the perfect backdrop.
You can check out the art that all the others made this week HERE.
I LOVE THE COLORS! I can't wait to see the finished necklace, please show us!
ReplyDeleteMary - those two colors contrast absolutely perfectly! You have some very cool shapes going on here too - I am crushing on those hand rolled discs! A project with your bead weaving AND your handmade beads is a match made in heaven - cannot wait to see it! Although I live quite south of you (Northern Virginia), it is cold here too! My only complaint with the cold is that my "studio" is in my unfinished basement. Although it is heated, one would not know it! I hope my space heater does not blow a fuse in the house! Stay warm, and enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteThose are great colors, Mary. Funny isn't it how if it doesn't come out of the kiln the way we had pictured, we think its a failure. But then you put the pieces down for a while and you start to see the potential. Happens to me a lot more often than I'd like to admit. But its part of the beauty of putting things into the 'black box.'
ReplyDeleteOhhhh, I so agree with Lorelei and Patti. Those pieces are just dying to be worked up. The colors and textures are awesome!!!! Can't wait to see a finished piece!!!! And.....I live in Sunny Florida, so I am warm, sometimes to much, would love to do some traveling North!!!!
ReplyDeleteThose are lovely pieces, and the colors and textures are wonderful! Can't wait to see what you do with them!
ReplyDeleteI can empathize with being disappointed when things don't turn out just as we planned, but more often than not happy mistakes happen to expand our horizons. I LOVE the color of those beads and think you should do that again on purpose!
ReplyDeleteI love the colors - it reminds me of the ocean and the beach!
