Looking Up Week 20

                                                               Lilacs blooming

This week out prompt from Sally was to look up.  This time of year that is a good idea since much of the magic of spring is in the trees as they begin to leaf out and flower.  I missed some wonderful shots since everything happened so fast this Spring due to the very warm weather.  But I didn't miss these gorgeous Lilacs.  Turns  out this is a fab year for lilacs.  They are blooming big and bountiful everywhere you look.  Yesterday on a long drive though out the area I was treated to many:  where there were homes and in places where they mark an abandoned long since decayed and disappeared dwelling.  It was a sight to see.  Here is a pic of some blooms  from one of our ancient lilacs.  I can get a whiff of their sweet perfume as I type.

You can see what others saw this week when they looked up HERE.

  1. They look gorgeous, and I can almost smell their sweet perfume! The trees in Northern Virginia...at least where I am...are done flowering. But where there were once colorful flowers, there are now beautiful leaves in all shades of green! It amazes me how a tree that two months ago was barren can now be so full of life! Happy Spring, indeed!

    1. Just open the door to the deck and the perfume is everywhere. Not always do we have such a robust flowering of the lilac.

  8. Thank you for these - they are my favorite flowers to smell! We had a lilac tree/bush in our yard when I was growing up and it reminds me of my childhood! Wish we had them here in AZ!

  9. I love lilacs. I had a tree at my house in NJ but here they would be goat fodder so no lilacs for me.

  10. Our lilacs are blooming profusely too. Love the smell, and the perfect shapes of all of those little blossoms in the larger shape. You have captured these in your photo against the sky. Lovely.

  11. Gorgeous! my lilac is blooming for the first year too! I love the smell, the colours, the blooms. When I was younger back home lilacs would always be in full bloom on my birthday and I just love them (when I turned 18 a good friend of mine brought me an arm-full of lilacs!) - here, in Canada, I have to wait for them a tad longer, but it's always worth :)

  19. Mary, you chose one of my favorite flowers to feature for this post. I LOVE the smell of lilacs! My 4 year old son and I took a moment to smell them a week ago on one of our walks. We had a big lilac bush that my parents planted at one of our previous houses, and the new owners actually cut it down! I thought it was such a crime since it was a nice, large size. :-( I'd love to see a picture of some of these abandoned properties that you describe...what a mental image - picturing the mature lilac bushes in places where a home once stood, or where it is now abandoned.
