A Time to Stitch 5 Blog Hop

This is my first time participating in the cool blog hop.  I chose a very simple flat peyote stitch bracelet for this project.  I started with a bracelet in size 6 seed beads.

The second bracelet I made in size 8 seed beads.

Bracelet with stitch changed to size 8 seed beads

Both bracelets together

And the last one still to come will be in size 11 seed beads.

One of the things I learned from this exercise is that what looks good in size 6 seed beads does not have quite the fashionable look once it is done in size 8.  And for size 11 quite a bit is lost.  What I liked about the original size 6 bracelet was that the large button and beads made a fun and bold bracelet.  As it got smaller it got planer I think.  Next time I participate in one of these I hope to be quite a bit more adventuresome and bold as well.!!

Now let's see what everyone else made.  The list follows:

  1. I like your bracelets, Mary. I agree that smaller beads make a much less bold statement and I like bold. This is a great exercise in discovering what you prefer.

  3. It's amazing how a little change can have a huge impct on the proportions of the piece, isn't it? I think both of the bracelets look terrific, and I'll be interested to see how the piece with the 11s turns out!

  5. I love the differences in your bracelets Mary! Glad you got to participate, this is one of the best blog challenges! I'd like to see what you think once you get the 3rd one completed. I love flat peyote in delicas, it feels like silky cloth. Round seed beads have a totally different feel and vibe to them. And yes, I adore those closures!!! :)

  9. Both of your bracelets are beautiful, I like the bigger one but in each one of them your buttons as closures are wonderful.

  10. Is there anything more fun to wear (or more fun to design) than a flat peyote-stitched bracelet with a dynamite button closure? You've treated us to 2 right here, and I'll be stopping back to see how you interpret this classic in 11's.

  11. When I started out learning peyote, size 6 beads were the only way to go for me. The more I practiced, the smaller the beads that I worked with got. You reminded me how beautiful size 6 beads can be when you so perfectly accent them with gorgeous button clasps! I love the way your bracelets turned out!

  12. Usually I go for smaller beads, but I agree with you ~ seed beads done in peyote do look better in the larger sizes. And your bracelets, in their simplicity, illustrate the challenge so well ~ changing the look with a different size/color. Keeping them simple beautifully highlights your buttons. These are all so beautiful, Mary!

  13. When you change the size of the seed beads, will it change the length of the bracelet too?
I love your button =) so matching with the colors.
