Focus on Life Week 7: Beauty of Flowers

There are not any flowers outside right now since it very much winter here in Northern New York.  Inside I do not have any flowering plants this year. However, I did find this sweet white flower growing in the pot of  one of the  two Ficus trees I brought inside for the winter.  Actually this flower looks very familiar.  I think it is in the Nightshade family( but not the toxic one.)  I see it frequently in my veggie garden when I am pulling weeds in the summer.   It must have seeded itself in the tree's pot.

I am so cheered  to find this brave little blossom that has hitchhiked its way into my house and brought us a bit of summer. Thank you Sally for setting us on a search for flowers this week as part of your Focus On Life  challenge.

Weeds are flowers too, once you get to know them.  A. A. Milne

Thank you all for your visits and wonderful comments.  I so appreciate hearing from you.

  8. Such a wonderful hitch hiker! Last year a grew flax in the pot with my spider plant, all from dumping the water from my bird's water dish in there! I knew it was flax when the beautiful blue flowers showed up!

  15. That quote is so true! What a bright little volunteer you found there! It looks like a star.

Birds introduced columbine and foxglove to my garden. I have a terrible habit to wait to see 'what will happen' when I find new 'weeds' growing in my garden. Some then become horrible pests as they go to seed while I'm not watching. But others, others I gladly share my garden with them.

  20. Around here there are some kind of weeds that bloom with purple flowers and it can make a field look beautiful and I really enjoy them but apparently the farmers do not so they get rounded up! I liked how you characterized your little flower as a hitchhiker, so cute!

  24. It all depends on context, doesn't it - the when and where of that seed growing. There are weeds that I love to see in my flowerbeds and garden, but others need to sprout elsewhere to be survive. Love your photo of this little one. Andrea
