Focus on Life: Green Week 24
This week our prompt from Sally is Green--so perfect for this Spring here in Northern New York. We have been deluged with rain and everything keeps growing and growing and getting greener and greener. I chose to post this photo of some blueberries on by blueberry bush because they are green with that beautiful hint of pink which will turn to blue later. They look so tasty but sadly they are about all the berries there are for the three bushes I planted 4 years ago. I must be doing something wrong. Any suggestions would be so appreciated!!
I hope you will check out what others have green in their lives HERE. Thanks so much for stopping and for all of your comments.

YUM! I love blueberries! I am not much of a gardener, but as I understand it - it is all about the soil. They need acidic soil, and the soil needs to be well aerated (blueberries grew really well in sandy soil where I grew up) .. it holds the water
ReplyDeleteThanks so for the tips on growing blueberries. I am going to work on the soil and giving them some more room.
DeleteNothing like fresh picked blueberries. Cynthia is right, acid in the soil is good. A good amount of sun is preferable for blueberries too. I would amend the soil and maybe give the bush a slight pruning after the berries ripen.
ReplyDeleteWe have wild blue berries here... they actually belong to our neighbour but he's an infrequent summer resident so I'm sure he doesn't mind me grazing ... Since they are wild will not give any growing directions!
ReplyDeleteI've only ever seen the dark blue ones in the supermarket, so your photo was a surprise to me! I think they are so pretty in that pale green and pink colouring, it's almost a shame they have to ripen!
ReplyDeleteOh, fresh blueberries are just the best! I've never tried to grow them, but I hope you can learn something here about them. :)
ReplyDeleteLovely
ReplyDeleteGreat photo. Lovelyy shades of green. My hubs just came home the other week w/some potted blueberries,....not sure what's gonna happen to them here in the heat!!
ReplyDeleteGreat photo! Wish I had green fingers and could offer some advice, but sadly I don't :(
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week :)

ReplyDeleteLove fresh blueberries on everything.. I think I need a new tree to go with the pomegranate and lemon trees.

Love your hopeful picture of green blueberries. What i know about growing them: they do need acid soil. They don't like to be overgrown by other nearby bushes. Birds like blueberries that are less ripe than we like them!
